The wood doesn't get damaged because it is treated to be protected from the humidity. The wooden parts of the sauna usually stay good for decades. The picture above doesn't give you a good idea of modern finnish saunas. Anyone interested should google "saunan lauteet" and enjoy at least the pictures.
